Union for Freedom
The Union for Freedom (in Polish, Unia Wolności , UW) is a Polish political party liberal of center-right, resulting from the fusion of two liberal parties:
- Unia Demokratyczna (UD);
- Kongres Liberalno-Demokratyczny (KLD),
- and previously, of Solidarność.
Created the April 23rd 1994 by Władysław Frasyniuk, this party underwent an electoral rout in 2001 which completely drew aside it from the Diet (Sejm). It lays out of several appointed European since the elections of June 2004 of which Bronisław Geremek. February 27th, 2005, one of its principal members, the former Polish Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki created a new centrist party with the ex-Vice-First minister Jerzy Hausner, resigner of the government Belka: the Demokraci.pl. Marek Belka and the majority of the members of the UW joined alliance demokraci.pl.
