The Inheritance

Associations members of RAMPART intervene on a very varied inheritance: Chapelle S, extremely S, Prieuré S, Château X, Moulin, furnace with Chaux, Railroad, Jardin S, forging mills, terraces, that these buildings are protected under the Historic buildings or simple small inheritances. These elements can result from all times, of the Préhistoire at our days, without none being particularly privileged.

International partnerships

The Union RAMPART and its associations act mainly as France, in bond with the services of the State concerned, but they can also take actions abroad in collaboration with partners of the countries host, in general associative. In addition to the efforts of safeguard and restoration, association aims at re-using and to animate the places where she works, on the basis of the report that a building, natural site or archaeological will turn over more quickly at the former state of degradation if a justified use and an agreement with the local communities are not found.

Operation

Each project is the fruit of a collaboration between on the one hand local association member of RAMPART and, on the other hand, the local partners (population, public authorities). It takes into account social environment, economic and cultural local, as well as the human means, financial and technical whose local association can lay out and, obviously, the potentialities and the identity of the building dealt with.

Each site dealt with thus not only is safeguarded or restored but also re-used and animated within the framework of a local development project in the long run, i.e. of with the mopins fifteen years: Examples: a medieval ruin becomes a place of spectacle, a rural house a lodging of stage, an old industrial factory a museum…

To make known its actions, RAMPART publishes three catalogs annually presenting the building sites and the training courses proposed by its associations members.

Education and training

If the restoration of the Inheritance is an objective of the Movement RAMPART, it is also a tool of education and training of the individual, as well as a vector of even professional social integration. The building site is used as place of catch of responsibility, the autonomy of each voluntary being supported, and also technical training (size of the stone, manufacture of stained glasses, masonry, etc), with a particular emphase on the redécouverte and the transmission of old techniques and of knowledge-making local (in particular by the means of training courses thorough).

Associations members of RAMPART also complete work of studies, statements of the frame, research in files or of archaeological work to ensure a durable safeguard and a restoration of the buildings of which they have the load.

Lastly, of many other actions are carried out within the Union to contribute to a better education of the general public: organization of conferences and spectacles, guided visits of the sites, publication of books, booklets, guides, etc, research tasks

Edition

RAMPART is also editor of the Inheritance. More than twenty titles are appeared and well of others are in preparation.

At the beginning, the collection " Inheritance vivant" was created to answer the questions of the voluntary young people who work on the building sites of restoration. The first title, Castles strong, written Andre Châtelain, are appeared in 1983.

With the passing of years, the public widened considerably, and today, the readers are quite simply the people curious and impassioned by the inheritance. To instigate the promotion of these works, RAMPART joined the editor Desclée de Brouwer who diffuses the books in bookstore. The collection is now codirigée by André Châtelain, Nicolas Faucherre and Elisabeth Dormouse-Mongazon.

These books want to be didactic and are addressed to a vast public; largely illustrated, they are very appreciated for the richness and the variety of the iconography. Through this collection, RAMPART wishes to propose a broad vision of the inheritance. The topics of alive Inheritance are very varied. In addition to rather traditional subjects on the inheritance built - strong Castles, Fortified towns, medieval Residences - the collection also the cultural heritage, transmitted by the means of a knowledge approaches to make - Costumes, Chants and instruments - or of the more original subjects such as Quartier cathédral.
