The Union Buildings (Buildings of the Union) constitute the seat of the government of South Africa since 1910. They are located at Pretoria, Capitale of the country since 1910.
The buildings of the union were built between 1910 and 1913 in the fields of the Architecte Herbert Baker, shortly after the formation of the Union of South Africa. Located on the hill of Meintjies (Meintjies Kop) in the district of Arcadia, they dominate the Park Louis Botha, the principal artery (Chuch Street), and the town of Pretoria.
Of a 275 m length, they are divided in two wings around a small amphitheater. Each wing represents one of the two principal white languages of the country (Afrikaans and English).
The building dominates a garden downwards (Park Louis Botha) where are disseminated the Delville Monument (war memorial of the First World War with Delville, France), the war memorial of the Second world war, statues of James Barry Hertzog and Louis Botha.
It is with the Unions Buildings that Nelson Mandela lent oath like President of South Africa the May 10th 1994.
