Uniejów

Uniejów is a city Chef-lieu of Poland which counts 3.100 inhabitants (1998). It is located on the Warta, in the Voïvodie de Łódź and of the Powiat de Poddębice

Geography

History

  • the first historical mention of the city goes back to 1136
  • It belongs to the Archevêques of Gniezno (until the end of the 18th century). With the XIV {{E}} and XV {{E}} centuries, it is their main home.
  • Uniejów receives the urban Privilège S towards 1290.
  • In 1331, the city is destroyed by the Teutoniques.
  • In the middle of the 14th century, the archbishop of Gniezno makes build new a Château.
  • With the XIV {{E}} and XVI {{E}} centuries, the city is a small center of Commerce and Artisanat. The city undergoes an important regression at the 17th century, as the remainder of the country.
  • In 1793, it is annexed by the Prussia.
  • In 1807, it belongs to the Duché of Warsaw created by Napoleon before finding in the Royaume of the Congress in 1815.
  • Of 1870 with 1919, it loses its statute of city. Small Industrie S develops to with it at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century.
  • In 1905, the schools are in strike to claim a teaching in Polish.
  • the 6 and September 7th 1939, of the important combat take place German to prevent the from crossing the Warta.
  • In 1940/1941, 500 Juif S is locked up in the Ghetto by the Nazis.
