Unicast

The term unicast defines a connection network point-to-point.

One understands by unicast the fact of communicating between two identified computers each one by a single address network. The packages of data are roads on the network according to the address of the recipient encapsulated in the transmitted screen. Normally, only the recipient intercepts and decodes the package which is addressed to him.

In the protocol IP, the addresses must be single insofar as the packages are roads on the level of the LAN (Local Area Network) or of the WAN (Wide Area Network).

  • Example of a local address IP (private) which can be used for a communication unicast: 192.168.1.32
  • Example of an address IP Internet (public) which can be used for a communication unicast: 66.102.11.99

For a diffusion multipoint, one will use a diffusion broadcast or multicast.
