Unic
UNIC was a French manufacturer of private cars and trucks very famous.
Repurchased in 1952 per Theodore Pigozzi, then owner of Simca, Unic S.A. will be taken again by FIAT V.I in 1966, then integrated in the group IVECO during his creation in 1975.
The factory of Lancy Bourbon which ensured the manufacture of engines and assembled specific vehicles UNIC and the models FIAT for the French market will be transformed into factory of mechanical components - engines and boxes - in the Eighties following the rejection of the participation of IVECO France in the invitation to tender for the army.
History of mark UNIC
In 1893, Georges Richard started by manufacturing Bicyclette S then Chariot S motorized.
In 1905, following a meeting with the Baron Henri De Rothschild, Georges Richard obtained the required funds for an expansion. He founds the public limit company of cars UNIC, with Puteaux, France, which at the beginning built only light Véhicules and Taxis, but the firm gives up the construction of Automobile S in 1938.
1914: UNIC brings its participation in the victory: the famous taxis transport the troops of Gallieni on the Marne, at the time of the First World War.
In 1922, the firm introduces a Camion of 3 tons of the name of M5C. Also, the founder of mark UNIC Georges Richard dies in Rouen.
1930: UNIC presents to the living room the first large Moteur French functioning with the Diesel.
In 1931, a model of truck the CD3, a Carrying six-wheels with Cap, and propelled by a diesel engine Mercedes-Benz of 6 Cylinder S, 8.6 Liters. And the engine is built under license by Diesel Rapids which with exclusiveness for France and sells its engines under the name of Codra.
1933: UNIC is the first French manufacturer to present a complete range of industrial vehicles of 3 tons to 15 tons.
In 1937, Unic manufactured its own diesel engine, one 6 cylinders of 10.3 liters.
1938: UNIC gives up the manufacture of the cars of tourism to devote itself exclusively to the industrial vehicles.
In 1945, Unic offered a new range: ZU, which included/understood a Cabine semi-projection.
Under the Second world war, the firm formed an association with Camions Bernard, Delahaye, Laffy and Simca, and this, under governmental control, called French Groupement of the Car (GFA), and which was dismantled in 1951. But one year later and With in the chair Mr PIGOZZI, UNIC constitutes the branch heavy trucks of Simca INDUSTRIES.
In 1955, Unic introduces a new truck, the ZU 101, in configuration of 4x2, with an engine of 6 cylinders of 9.8 liters and 135 Chevaux, with a Transmission to 8 Speed S, and Frein S with Compressed air. This model was available out of carrier and Tracteur.
1956: UNIC absorbs the trucks Saurer France.
In 1958, the range of Unic included 27 carriers from 12 to 15 tons of PTAC, and 8 tractors of 19 to 22 tons of PTRA.
In 1960, a new truck with cabin advanced and named Vincennes and with the engine M635 V8 diesel with injection, appeared. Then Unic offers another model of the name of Izoard. Also to widen its range of trucks, the firm imports vehicles of the company OM from 4 to 7 tons of payload.
1966: UNIC becomes division industrial vehicles of FIAT France SA with in the chair Umberto Agnelli. And the exchanges of products with other divisions Italy born increased.
In 1969, a more powerful engine V855 of 340 horses and 14 liters, was available.
1973: After 68 years of production in Suresnes and Puteaux the vehicles are manufactured in Trappes, in close cooperation with FIAT Italy. UNIC contributes to the international dimension of the group FIAT to with dimensions of FIAT V.I and OM.
1974: New company name UNIC-FIAT S.A.
1975: Creation of IVECO (Industrials VEhicules Corporation) which gathers the marks FIAT V.I, OM, Lancia V.I, UNIC and Magirus.
1976: UNIC-FIAT S.A. becomes UNIC S.A.
1992: IVECO UNIC S.A. becomes IVECO FRANCE S.A.
