Underprivileged class

The under Prolétariat is a Marxist term, indicating a population located socially under the Prolétariat, from the point of view of the work conditions and life, made of miserable displaced elements, not organized urban proletariat.

Called in German “ Lumpenproletariat ” (proletariat let us haillons some, of “ Lumpen ” = wreck, rag, haillon and “ Proletariat ”), this population was regarded by many Marxists as without political conscience. The theorists of the Révolution recommended to be wary about it, because this class was likely to be used as auxiliary force with the Bourgeoisie.

It was, during the industrial time, in certain Western countries, one of names of the populations living in the Misère.

According to some the Lumpenproletariat of today would be very weak numerically, and would be limited quasi-exclusivement to the “Without fixed residence”. Other analysts use the term Lumpenproletariat (since the publication of a platform in the Le Monde newspaper, on April 1st, 2005) to designate the young people Casseur S excluded from the consumer society to which they aspire and devoting itself to Urban violences or vandalism and aggressions at the time of left-wing policy demonstrations and which reinforce according to this same analysis the vicious circles of exclusion, the sedentary speeches of the right-hand side and the extreme-right-hand side or thus contribute to discredit the social movements and the social claims.
