Under the reign of Bone

Under the reign of Bone ( Rule Off The Bone ) is a novel of Russell Banks published in 1995.

It is about a Romance of formation. The narrator, Chappie, are young a 14 years old American. He is later called Bone because of a tattooing which he carries. After having left the school it falls under the influence from an clandestine immigrant jamaïcain rastafarien.

The novel comprises two parts. The first tells the difficulties of its family in the America of today. The second occurs to Jamaica. Some criticisms, as Michiko Kakutani of the NewYork Times estimate that this novel is located in the line of other novels which treat rebel clean with adolescence like the Catch-hearts of Salinger or the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn of Mark Twain.

The book contains explicit descriptions of use of drug and sexual abuse, which because of the age of the narrator, contributed to cause a polemic during the publication to the the United States.
