Umberto Sheba , pseudonym of Umberto Poli (born the March 9th 1883 with Trieste, dead the August 25th 1957 with Gorizia) was a writer and Italian poet of the first moirié of the 20th century.

Biography

After commercial studies and part-time jobs, Umberto Sheba is devoted exclusively to the letters, collaborating episodically in reviews and newspapers, and in particular Solaria . It leaves Trieste for Italy in 1905 (the city being still under Austro-Hungarian domination at that time). He lives with Florence, with Pisa, makes his military service in 1908 with Salerno, then goes back to Trieste. Its pen name takes as a starting point its nurse Beppe Sabaz.

After its participation in the First World War, it opens its “ancient and modern bookstore” with Trieste, become again Italian, bookstore which it will hold until its death. Umberto Sheba Marie in 1911. Of Jewish origin by his/her mother, Sheba will have to flee the mode Mussolinien in 1943. Starting from 1945, Umberto Sheba will be devoted to the writing of its poetic work. After having received the price of the Accademia dei Lincei in 1951, it is made doctor honoris causa University of Rome in 1953. Sheba remains isolated from the hermetic mediums and neo-realists who redécouvrent it with enthusiasm after the war. Its resolutely autobiographical poetry are the proof of a cultural separation and humaine.sa poetry can parître diverting by its apparent simplicity, it fraudulently registered against uine certain poetry modern which pours in the darkness.
