Uludj Ali ( Ali-le-Renégat ) (also called Ulaj or Uluj , in Turkish: Uluç Ali Pasha ) is an Othoman admiral 16th century of Christian origin . Of its true name `' Giovanni Dionigi Galeni'', born in 1520 in Calabria in Italy.

At 16 years, it goes to Naples to make studies of Théologie when it is removed by the Turkish corsair Khayr AD-DIN Barberousse. It converts quickly with the Islam and becomes corsair in his turn. It serves the Turkish corsair Dragut, like him of Christian origin, then is named beylerbey of Algiers in Algérie.

In 1568, it tries to tear off the Spain hands of the Chrétiens and sends a fleet of 40 ships, but the strong winds of the winter prevent it from achieving its goal.

It then drives out the dynasty of the Hafsides of Tunis (October 1569) then beats in 1571 the Venetian and seizes Dulcigno.

At the time of the battle of Lépante, it directs the left wing of the Othoman squadron vis-a-vis the Gênois and succeeds in rejoining Istambul with the remains of the Othoman armada.

Selim II names then it kapudan pasha and the reorganization of the fleet with the vizier Sokullu Mehmed pasha entrusts to him.

In 1573 it frees Modon, besieged by the prince of Parma and takes again Tunis in 1574 with the Spanish , which had conquered it after the Bataille of Lépante.

He dies the June 21st 1587.
