Ulmaceae

The family of the Ulmacées is a family of plants Dicotylédone S. According to Watson & Dallwitz it includes/understands nearly 200 Espèce S divided into 15 kind S:

  • Ampelocera, Aphananthe, Celtis, Chaetachme, Gironniera, Hemiptelea, Holoptelea, Lozanella, Parasponia, Phyllostylon, Will plane, Pteroceltis, Trema, Ulmus, Zelkova .
They are trees or shrubs largely distributed in the moderate and tropical zones.

In France, it is the family of the Orme S (kind Ulmus ), of the Micocoulier (kind Celtis ), Planera , Trema and Zelkova (or false-elm of Siberia).

Since a few tens of years, the various species of elms were destroyed by a mushroom Ophiostoma ulmi (Brisman) Nannf. - in the past Ceratocystis ulmi (Buisman) C. Black causing their deterioration. This disease is known under the name of “Graphiose of the elm”.

In phylogenetic classification APG II (2003) this family is smaller: APG II assigns Celtis and Al with the Cannabacées. Accepts 35 species in 6 kinds, in particular Ulmus and Zelkova .
