Uhabia

The Uhabia or Ouhabia is a small coastal river of the Basque Country French which is thrown in the Bay of Biscay with Bidart in the Yrénées-Atlantiques.

Its name Uhabia is the regular evolution in language Basque of ur habia , word-with-word “water hole”, which is interpreted like “valley of the river”.

Geography

It takes its source with Goizbide in the moors overhanging Ustaritz and Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle, under the name of Apalagako erreka . It animates the mill of Alotz, then circumvents Arbonne. It collects water of the Alhorgako Erreka which drains the plain of Belhardi in the north of Ahetze.

The village of Bidart developed on the heights overhanging its estuary.
