Ugine

Ugine is a common French, located in the department of the Savoy in the area the Rhone-Alps.

Its inhabitants is called the Uginoises and the Uginois .

Geography

Situation

Ugine is a small town of Savoy to the foot of the throats of the Arly. It is crossed by two rivers, the Chaise and Arly, whose confluence is at the exit of Ugine in direction of Albertville.

Nature of the landscapes

Ugine was built on the slope of the pastures located at the foot of the Mont Charvin. The commune is thus in a kind of " Circus " , bordered by the Chain of Aravis, the Massive of the Wallows and the Valley of Arly. The landscapes thus have a strong mountain aspect , characterized by an alternation between the meadows, the Verger S and the national forests of coniferous.

Public transport

There does not exist any more service road ensured by the SNCF on the commune, this one being henceforth reserved for the Fret of materials intended for the factories. There exists however a service of bus for Albertville installation by the Co.RAL. Also, two companies of Taxi - Ambulance resident on the commune and another is in Marthod.

Etymology

In 1952, " Ugines " becomes Ugine by decree.

This industrial town is known for its Acier S. It will fall under the industrial era in 1903, with the construction of an electric steel-works. Its manpower will exceed a long time the 3.500 paid ones.
