Eugene Emmanuel Amaury Pineux Duval (Montrouge, the April 16th 1808; Paris, the December 25th 1885) more known under the pseudonym of Amaury Duval is a painter French.
He is the nephew of the dramatic author Alexandre Pineux Duval.

Biography

It is one of the first pupils to enter the workshop of the Master, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres.

In 1829, it belongs to the commission of artists and scientist indicated by Charles X to go to Greece at the time of the Expédition of Morée, as draftsman in the section archeology.

It exposes the first time to the living room of 1833 by presenting several portraits of which the green Dame (which was not found) and its Autoportrait that one can see with the museum of the Art schools of Rennes http://www.mbar.org/.

In 1834, it exposes its " Greek shepherd discovering a low-relief antique".

Of 1834 with 1836, it carries out a length Voyage in Italy, with Florence then with Rome and Naples where it discovers with happiness the art of the Italian Renaissance.

Of return in France, it takes part in the orders of decorations of churches that the government of Louis-Philippe then of Napoleon III distributed to the artists: the Holy vault Philomène with the church Saint-Merry (1840-1844), the vault of the virgin in Auxerre-native Saint-Germain-the, Paris (1844-1846) then the parish church of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer (1849-1856).

Its work

One finds in the painting of Amaury Duval the strong influence of Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres.

Baudelaire highly criticized the school of Ingres and the painting of Amaury Duval: “ In general, Misters FLEMING, AMAURY-DUVAL and LEHMAN, have this excellent quality, that modelled to them is true and fine. The piece is designed there, carried out well easily and very of a breath; but their portraits are often sullied with a pretentious and awkward affetery. Their immoderate taste for the distinction their cheek at every moment of nasty tricks. One knows with which admirable good-naturedness they seek tons them distinguished, i.e. tons which, if they were intense, would howl like the devil and water bénite, like the marble and the vinegar; but as they are excessively faded and taken with a homeopathic amount, the effect is rather surprising that painful: it is the great triumph there! ” Among its most known works appear Madam de Loynes and the Annunciation .
