Uche Chukwumerije is a politician Nigerian, senator representing the State d' Abia since 2003 and member of the People' S Democratic Party , the party of the president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Under the popular pressure, the dictator Ibrahim Babangida resigns and Ernest Shonekan is named by the junta at the position of president by interim the August 26th 1993. Chukwumerije becomes Minister for the Information of the national government by interim and de facto the person in charge of the propaganda of the action of the junta. The general Sani Abacha seizes the power militarily on November 17th, 1993.

Chukwumerije is elected under the label of the democratic party of the people in 2003 (for a 4 years mandate) for the local government of Abia-North. Chukwumerije is the president of the senatorial commission of the interparliamentary businesses.

In November 2004 of the disorders burst in the State de Plateau. President Obasanjo asks that the State of emergency be founded. One of the rare members of Parliament to be opposed to this decision is Chukwumerije.

At the time of the attempt at constitutional modification aiming at allowing a third mandate to the president, it movement takes the head with the senator Ben Obi of the 2007 and is opposed to the modification. Chukwumerije is made the echo of the death threats movement received by certain members of the 2007 . May 16th, 2006, the Senate Nigerian votes and measurement does not collect the 2/3 of the voices necessary to its application. While leaving the room, Chukwumerije and Obi are invited by members of State Secret Service to follow them. The two senators obtempèrent and leave free after a frank explanation “ ”.

This political victory of Chukwumerije places it nevertheless cantilever with respect to its party which supported, though he retracted some afterwards, constitutional modification.
