U Roy (born Ewart Beckford the September 21st 1942 in Jones Town, Jamaica) is a deejay Reggae jamaïcain, also known under the names of The Originator , Hugh Roy or " Daddy U Roy" (because of its statute of " parrain" style deejay).
Its musical career started in 1961, when it became different DJ sound systems, working thereafter with King Tubby. Tubby tested then, with its equipment, in the process of the invention of the Dub. With U Roy like DJ proposed, the sound system of King Tubby became extraordinarily popular and U Roy became a celebrity jamaïcaine. It recorded Dynamic Fashion Way , its first recording, in 1969. He worked then with Lee Perry, Peter Tosh, Bunny Lee and Lloyd Daley.
In 1970, the singer jamaïcain John Holt éprit of the technique of U Roy. Working with Duke Reid, the fame of U-Roy developed by series of individual histories, including Wake the Town and Wear You to the Ball .
If it were not the first deejay to have recorded jamaïcain (Sir Lord Comic and King Stitt preceded it for that), U Roy is the first to have obtained tubes since 1970, and is at the origin of the explosion of the style deejay in the years 1970, style become then hegemonic in the reggae as from the years 1980 until today (approximately 70% of the vocal artists jamaïcains current are deejays against only 30% singers) and in the world, since the style deejay reggae is one of the fathers of the rap (for the vocal part).
The success of U Roy continued throughout the the Seventies and its sound system King Sturgav continued to reveal new DJ until the beginning of the the Eighties.
