Geography
UTC-9 corresponds in theory to a zone whose Longitude S lie between 127,5° E and 142,5° E and the hour initially used corresponded to the average solar hour of the 135 {{E}} meridian west. The major part of the Alaska is located at the west of this zone, but the average solar hour of Juneau, the capital of the State, is close to UTC-9. On the other hand, that of Anchorage, more the big city of the State, is very close to UTC-10. UTC-9 is in any case the first time zone in the east of the Date-line which relates to a significant continental mass.A significant part of the west of the Canada is also in theory in this zone (Yukon, west of the Territoires of the North-West and the Colombia-British) but uses UTC-8.
In the United States, the time zone is called Alaska Standard Time (standard hour of Alaska, shortened in AST).
Summer-time
Alaska observes the Summer-time; it passes then to UTC-8.The Gambier islands, as the remainder of French Polynesia, do not observe the Summer-time.
Reciprocally, the Aleutian Islands and the island the St. Lawrence observes the summer-time, as the remainder of Alaska: they are found then with UTC-9.
