Second week
Four players, who do not form part of the heads of series, described themselves for 8th as finale: Agnes Szavay, Julia Vakulenko, Victoria Azarenka and Tamira Paszek. Only the quoted first succeeded in obtaining its ticket towards the quarters.
In quarterfinals, Justine Henin, Venus Williams, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Anna Chakvetadze beat respectively Serena Williams, Jelena Janković, Agnes Szavay and Shahar Peer.
In the first played semi-final, opposing the two Russians Svetlana Kuznetsova and Anna Chakvetadze, the quoted first took the top on its compatriot. Kuznetsova, victorious of the tournament in 2004, will thus play its second final on the courts of Flushing Meadows. In the second semi-final, opponent Justine Henin with Venus Williams, the Belgian overcame his adversary in two sets. Henin thus carried out doubled the Serena & Venus Williams.
At the time of the finale, Justine Henin beats in 1:22 its adversary Svetlana Kuznetsova, on the score of 6-1 6-3. The Belgian thus gains its second title with the US Open, the seventh title of Grand Slam of his career.
