A Landtag (plural Landtage ) is the Parliament of a Land in Germany.
All the Landtage are elected according to a system of representation proportional. Only the parties which obtained more than 5% of the valid votes of the Land are represented, except for the Land of Bremen where it is enough to gain 5% of the votes in only one of the two cities.
The duration of a legislature is in general five years, except in the Länder of Bremen, Hamburg and Mecklembourg-Poméranie Western where it is four years. In Saxony-Anhalt, a prolonging change of the constitution spending this duration from four to five years will come into effect with the elections of March 26th, 2006.
The Landtag of Berlin is named Abgeordnetenhaus , the Landtage of Bremen and Hamburg is named Bürgerschaft .
