USS Seawolf (SS-197)
A biplane is a Avion equipped with two pairs of wings, one above the other. If one of the wings is half smaller than the other, one speaks more precisely about Sesquiplan.
That makes it possible to decrease the Envergure for a wing surface given, therefore to facilitate construction and storage of the plane, but with the disadvantage of increasing the Traînée by multiplication by two of the marginal swirls.
The planes with three pairs of wings are Triplan S.
The biplanes had their hour of glory around the war of 14, but one manufactured some much until the Second world war, for example to embark on the Porte-avions or for the acrobatics.
A famous model used in the stunt-flying, only détrôné by the modern planes: the Country rock SV4.
