USS Saratoga (CV-3)
Christian Hee Hwass is a conchyliologist Danish, born in 1731 and died in 1803.
With the head of a rich person fortune, the collection of shells of Hwass was famous. It passes the essence of its life to France, initially in Paris as from 1780, then of Auteuil as from 1794.
Its collection is used to him as a basis with an important monograph which appears in the methodical Encyclopédie in 1792. Although Hwass is the true author, one generally allots this publication to Jean-Guillaume Bruguiere (1750-1798), a friend close to Hwass.
Many scientists, like Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck (1744-1829), come to use its collection for their own publications. It also helps Heinrich Christian Friedrich Schumacher (1757-1830), his compatriot, when this one remains in Paris.
