History
Osthoffen wants to say field to the east, but this situation is not relative to Kirchheim (pertaining to the bishop) as it was written sometimes. In fact, the origin of Osthoffen holds of a Roman camp which settled with the current site of the castle. This Roman camp was a camp which supervised an observation post placed on Scharrach. This station, thanks to its position in height, could easily supervise the Roman road which passed to Soultz-the-Baths.This road went up south towards the north of Alsace. It was the road of Piedmont of the Vosges. The Romans proceeded in this way to protect the exchanges which was done by road. They put an observation post which itself was protected by a camp on both sides. In fact, Osthoffen and Westhoffen.
