USPGA
The USPGA or Championnat of the PGA ( PGA Championship ) is one of the four major tournaments of Golf. It is an annual competition organized by the association of the American professional golfeurs (PGA off America) which makes it even part of PGA Tour. The winners of the USPGA are automatically invited to play in the three other major tournaments for the 5 following years and are exempted of qualification of the USPGA with life.
History
The first PGA Championship was held in 1916 in Siwanoy Country Club of Bronxville in the state of New York. The trophy was offered by Rodman Wanamaker, and it is known today under the name of trophy Wanamaker (The Wanamaker Trophy). In the beginning it was about a tournament of Match-Play, but he was transformed into Stroke-Play in 1958, certainly by pressure of American televisions, which preferred to show the greatest number of possible players. The first winner, Jim Barnes, received 500 dollars in 1916 (by comparison the winner 2006, Tiger Woods, received more than one million to him dollars for its victory)
