The name of WORN Hornet (for United States Ship Hornet , Ship of the Hornet United States) was carried by several ships of the American navy. But some passed more largely to the posterity.
History of 7th WORN Hornet
The WORN Hornet (CV-8) is a American Porte-avions which was made famous during the Second world war, the April 18th 1942, while launching the sixteen bombers B-25 Mitchell which were going to carry out the first air raid on Tokyo, said Raid of Doolittle. Taking off of the bridge of WORN Hornet, the planes were going to bombard Yokohama and Tokyo with for objective continuing to airfields of China.WORN Hornet takes part in the Bataille of Midway. It will be cast in with the Bataille of the islands Santa Cruz where it is attacked by a largely higher air force of number.

History of 8th WORN Hornet
WORN Hornet (CV-12) is launched in 1943 after a construction flash (16 month between the installation of the skittle and the baptism).The aircraft carrier wiped 59 air raids without a scratch. But its planes destroyed 1410 Japanese planes (a record only exceeded by Essex). Its planes damaged or destroyed 1 269 710 tons of enemy ships (of which the super cruiser Yamato, a critical victory).
WORN Hornet was present in all the American unloadings in the Pacific after March 1944.
In 1969, WORN Hornet was used to recover the space capsules of the missions Apollo 11 and Apollo 12.
In 1991, it is high with the row of National historic landmark , then of State historic landmark in 1999; it will be opened with the public in 1998 and will be exposed to Alameda, California.
