The family of the tyrannidés (or Tyrannidae ) comprises more than 400 species of small American sparrows to the varied vernacular names: Petty tyrant X, élénie S, Bull calf S, Doradite S, Corythopis, Calandrite S, Pipromorphe S, Microtyran S, nozzle-in-arc, Todirostre S, Platyrhynque S, Carry-range, Moucherolle S, Pioui S, Lessonie S, ada S, Pitajo S, Pépoaza S, gaucho S, Dormilon S, tyrant S, Casiorne S, Attila S, Aulia S, Tityre S and Bécarde S.
They are birds of tiny size to average (from 6,5 to 28 cm). Their plumage is in the majority of the cases a varied combination of black, brown, white, yellow and green; it is dull at certain species, sharper at others. The family has a great diversity in the body proportions, the form and the structure of the nozzle, and the length of the legs.
One meets them in all the American continent , except for extreme north. They live a large variety of mediums, especially of the forests and wood of the varied types, as well as grassy areas.
