Tyr (forgotten Kingdoms)
See also: Tyr (homonymy)
Tyr is the divinity of the Law and Justice on Féérune, the fictitious world of countryside of the forgotten Royaumes of the roleplay Donjons and Dragons. It has as a dogma the punishment of the criminals and it preserves the law and the Good in the world.
Overflight
Tyr is very important and popular in the cultures of Féérune, because it is with the head of the Divine Triad (with Ilmater and Torm), a trio of gods working for courage, perseverance, justice, the duty, the honor and the good. All the paladins are attached to these values. Tyr is represented like a blind warrior and with the cut right hand. Therefore it carries the nickname of “mutilated God”. Ilmater helps Tyr to overcome this handicap, although actually Tyr is one of the most powerful gods. Tyr resides in the Field of the House of the Triad. Its symbol is a blue shield on which a balance and a hammer are engraved.
In the second edition of Advanced Dungeon & Dragons and in particular in Planescape, Tyr of the forgotten Kingdoms is regarded as being the same one as Týr of Scandinavian mythology. Tyr being in loss of power in Scandinavian mythology, it would have chosen to seek new admirers on Féérune. This part of its background is however ignored in the third edition of Dungeon & Dragons.
History
Tyr arrived on Toril to pacify the remainders of the deposed empire of Jhaamdath, into -247 CV, the year of the Lance which strikes. This divine countryside is called the Procession of Justice. The god himself carried out a troop of archons against the forces of chaos and the evil. Ilmater joined Tyr into -243 CV, then Torm, a human king, supplemented alliance later a few years as a champion of Tyr. Tyr had the right hand torn off by Kezef the Dog of Chaos, and its eyes were burst by the Lord Ao, not to have succeeded in preventing Baine from stealing the Tablettes of the Destiny.
Duties
To keep the favors of Tyr, it is necessary to respect the wounded enemies, not to sacrifice a body and to act for the good and the law. However, Tyr considers that to kill the agents of the evil is a honourable and noble act.
Orders
The following of Tyr constitutes sometimes special orders.
Knights of the Saint Judgment
The Order of the Knights attracts the paladins seeking to make respect with the greatest degree the Law of Tyr.
Knights of the Miséricordieuse Sword
This order of Knights attracts the paladins which more seek to make the good, by devotion towards Tyr.
Hammers of Grimjaws
The elite of the paladins of Tyr belongs to the Hammers. The selected paladins to enter this order are selected among noblest and most sincere of the Knights of the two preceding Orders. It is Tyr him even which carries out the selection, when the candidate receives a vision in his prayers. If the candidate sees a hammer, it is allowed immediately within the order. If he sees a sword, it is that he failed in one way or another in his rise. It must then leave in search repentance and again be able to pass the test. There are currently only thirteen Hammers in activity.
Divine field
In the works of the second edition of Advanced Dungeon & Dragons , Tyr shares its time between the kingdom of Asgard, in the plan of Ysgard, and the kingdom of the Court, in the plan of the Celestial Mont.
