Typicons monastic orthodoxe
The orthodoxe monachism is not organized in " ordres" , these big families of the catholic monachism . Each monastery has its own rule and the compliance with this rule, called typicon, is essential in a way as imperative as the rule of an order of Catholicism.
According to the principle of tradition which governs the life of the orthodoxe Église, let us typicons them were not written ex nihilo: they take as a starting point typicons of older monasteries. Two monasteries played a historical part of very first plan: Stoudion of Constantinople and, out of liturgical matter the Monastery Mar Sheba.
They are also inspired by the rules of the Pères of the Church and the Pères of the desert. The principal influence is that of the rules enacted by holy Basile, and in particular, the primacy of the prayer. But, the thought of saint Pacôme and Jean Cassien, as well as the regional habits, are often dominating.
The variety of the local practice which could in very large theory being east moderated by the unit of the orthodoxe monachism which gathers around some large spiritual Masters with the considerable radiation: Macaire de Scété, Éphrem, Jean Climaque, Syméon the New Theologist, Serge de Radonège, Gregoire Sinaïte, Gregoire Palamas, Nicodème Hagiorite, Seraph of Sarov, Ignace Briantchaninov, Silouane of Athos and Joseph Hésychaste.
