Since the beginning of the years 2000, the two species of the kind Sauromatum were placed in the kind Typhonium , returning, seems it, null and void the kind Sauromatum .

Typhonium venosum (Dryand. ex Aiton) Hett. & P.C.Boyce (Syn. Sauromatum venosum , Sauromatum guttatum , Arum cornutum ) - the horned arum, originating in the areas in the south of the Himalayas - is the most rustic species. If the tuber is planted sufficiently deeply it will resist one winter not too rigorous.
Various Araceae woke up the imagination of primitive populations and - are sometimes still - were regarded as phallic symbols. Thus Typhonium venosum , the horned arum of the south of the Himalayas, is also called voodoo lily .
The tubers of Typhonium venosum , which are sometimes presented to flower dry inside, generate a “diabolic” inflorescence with long spadice purple surrounded by a yellowish spathe with purple spots. This spectacular species, which is fertilized by the Mouches, spreads a nauseous odor; with the result that one gets rid some often quickly… The large digitées sheets, which resemble those of the arum serpent eater ( Dracunculus vulgaris ) appear after flowering.
