Etymology
Tapa comes from francic * the tappo (French cf “stopper” and “plug”) from where drift the Castillan tapar which means to stop , to cover (glass in fact). The direction of “cocktail snack”, “Kémia” is explained by the fact that at the origin one was used with aperitif a disc of pork-butchery posed on small glass as wine, thus forming a kind of lid (so that the insects and the dust of the inns in which one was useful do not fall into drinks).

History
Legends
There exist several versions of legends on the origin of typed. One of most known refers to the Moyen-âge, during the reign of Alfonso X el Sabio at the 13th century. It is said that the king, suffering, saw himself prescribing Vin, and to avoid the effects of alcohol with jeun, took amuse-mouths in accompaniment of drink. After its re-establishment, it decided that, in the castles of Castille the wine was to make use suitably accompanied by a ration of food. With this measurement, the consumers were affected by the effects of alcohol.Another version allots the creation of the term typed with a visit of the king Alfonso XIII in Province_de_Cadix, in which it stopped in an inn. Having sat, to the terrace, a draft rose, and the landlord, to prevent that dust or sand falls into glass, has to find as solution to stop (tapar) glasses with sections of Jambon. The solution of the landlord rained with the king, because it tasted ham and that it redemandait some. However, the authenticity of this anecdote is doubtful, because the use of dry bread or saucers to stop glasses is mentioned as of the 18th century. However, it is curious to note that the most popular legends allot the intervention, direct or not, of the kings at the origin of typed.

A simpler popular version tells than the tradition of typed originates in a snack of the peasants to wait the hour of the lunch, and than this need was better by taking a food accompanied by a little wine. In this manner, in the middle of the 19th century in Andalusia, one put pieces of cheese, ham or lomo (spine of pig) on wine glasses, stopping their contents.
Another legend tells, that, during the reign of the Kings Catholiques, because of the increase in the number of road accidents caused by alcohol, the taverniers transfer themselves obliged to be used glass as wine or of beer with one “typed”. This consisted of a cold plate furnished with ham, cheese, or of what was within reach of the tavernier. The customers were to consume food before drinking the contents of glass. This method was to reduce the alcohol consumption and the accidents.
Starting from these principal legends on the appearance of the term “typed”, it exists many local versions, more or less known. In each one of them, the origin of typed is a means of reducing the intoxication, of protecting drink, or a combination of all these reasons.
