A type-setter of music (or, more simply, a type-setter ) is a Musicien which invents Musique.
The traditional concept of type-setter
Concerning the musics having a system of notation, the concept of type-setter, who “thinks” and the music “writes”, the existence of a supposes interprets which, later, will carry out this one. Thus, the function of the type-setter is to organize a succession of sounds, while that of the interpreter will be to play (or of Chant er) the succession of sounds thus organized.
The type-setter must in general comply with the various rules of musical Composition associated with the Type of music which it is writing. For example, in Classical music, the musical sentences must be structured according to the principle known as “of the breadth”, which wants to say that each sentence must be limited to four measurements or with a multiple of four (8, 12,16,20, etc).
Composition, interpretation and improvisationIn the traditional meaning of the concept of type-setter, the musical work wanted by this last is necessarily a “differed act”. In this direction, the type-setter opposes the musician improviser, which thinks and carries out his musical thought in an almost instantaneous way. However, this antagonism “composition/improvisation” is not also distinct.
Relative freedom of the interpreter
At the musical object time, the interpreter can express a great part of personal invention and improvisation compared to the initial composition. For example: low quantified in Baroque music, improvisations around a topic, in Jazz, Blues, etc
In the case of the music written on partition, of the signs and annotations allow the musician interprets to determine the margin of freedom of interpretation left by the type-setter. For example, for the interpreter, a embroidery explicitly noted is much more constraining than a corrosive , even if embroidery and corrosive are two notations different from same a melody ornament.
When the type-setter and the interpreter are a single musician
We saw that the respective functions of type-setter and interpreter are distinct and complementary. Nevertheless, a single musician can hold these two roles. On this assumption, the border between improvisation and interpretation are even more difficle to be determined.
It is for example the case of type-setters such as Mozart, Chopin, Paganini, Liszt, Busoni, Prokofiev, Enesco or Rachmaninov, when those played their works as a public. It is also the case of the type-setter-interpreters of Free jazz, likely to improvise all the musical aspects their performances.
The type-setter deprived of interpreter
It is frequently said that “a type-setter written of the music”, however, the realization differed from a music does not imply necessarily the transcription of this one on a partition for his execution by an interpreter.
Thus a type-setter of electronic music or electroacoustic, dealing only with Software S or magnetic bands, creates a musical work (a electronic file of music for example) by the only composition, without passing by interpretation. In this case, the Sound recording realized by the type-setter is a musical work completed sufficient with itself.
