Summary

Thibaudier is a man with morbid timidity, which allowed Anatole Garadoux, an off-handedness, to obtain without evil the hand of Cecile, girl of the first. But the latter does not wish to marry her applicant and threw her reserved on Jules Frémissin, a timid lawyer…, him also - and which, therefore, does not dare to ask for to the father the hand of Cecile. Thanks to the energy and with the determination of the young girl and thanks to a dramatic turn of events which reveals Garadoux like a violent man having made prison to have beaten his first wife, the marriage between Cécile and Frémissin is accepted.
