Twinned

Maclas is a common French located in the Canton of Pélussin, department of the the Loire and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Its inhabitants are called Maclaires.

Geography

It is in the area the Rhone-Alps precisely in the the Loire that you will find the village of Twinned. On the buttresses of the Pilat and overhanging the valley of the Rhone on a plate located at 400 m of altitude, our village belongs to the 47 communes of the Regional Park of the Pilat.

With a relief and a very contrasted climate, the village enjoys a fabulous landscape surrounded by orchards. Arboriculture is the agricultural main activity.

The access to the commune since the Vallée of the Rhone offers a picturesque landscape through the Throats of Malleval and the water fall of the Jump of Lorette. Since the commune, the panorama extends from the whole of the Mont Pilat in north with the valley of North in the east. In clear weather, the alpine tops and in particular Mont Blanc can be seen.

History

Twinned undoubtedly has certainly very old origins go up they until the Gallo-Roman time but we do not have sure sources which could affirm it to us. On the other hand, we know that its orthography appeared in 1352. ---- During the Middle Ages, Maclas was under the influence of the Baron of Malleval and it is not that in 1633 qu ' it was released some to create its clean baronnie. This one was installed with the Castle of the Bush and included Maclas, Véranne, Saint-Appolinard and Roisey. ---- The family of Villars was the first lords. Initially Claude de Villars and then his Pierre son who due to sell the baronnie with the family of the Beautiful of Bérard which kept possession until the French revolution of it. ---- During the XVIIIe century, Maclas used the first mills with silk and it is only at the end of this century that its industry increased abundantly. At the end of the XIXe century, Maclas made gigantic great strides as regards activities always in connection with the textile. ---- Since the crisis of 1930, the activity of the Textile declined gradually. But the village always kept this productive side since it currently contains about thirty community activities.
