Tuzla

Tuzla is a town of Bosnia-Herzégovine (3rd agglomeration of the country) and is the adminsitratif center of the canton which bears the same name. Surrounded in the North-East by the mountain Majevica and in south-east by the mountains Ozren, Konjuh and Javornik, it has a surface of 303 km ² and counts 165.000 inhabitants.

History

The First hard copy testifying to the existence of Tuzla appears into 950 after J.C. It is the historian and Byzantine emperor Constantin Porphyrogénète which quotes it as a city under the Roman name of Salines which means the city of salt.

Tuzla is the birthplace of many writers such as: Meša Selimović, Derviš Sušić, Stjepan Matijević, Matija Divković, Muhamed Hevai Uskufi.
