Turtmanntal

The Turtmanntal is a side Vallée High-Were worth, in Suisse which holds the record of the limit of the highest forest of Europe to more than 2000 meters.

Description

The valley extends along the course from the river Turtmänna, over a length of approximately 10 kilometers, on the basis of the valley of the commune of Tourtemagne to 678 meters, while passing by the villages of mountain of Ergisch, Unterems and Oberems to finish with the Glacier of Turtmann to 3000 meters of altitude.

Inhabited only in summer (mainly for the holidays and Alpine tourism), one also finds there several hamlets gathered under the generic name of Stafel , consisted of small groups of houses, used by the farmers until the medium of the Années 1970, to gather the cattle. On the basis of the valley of the Rhone in spring, they assembled the valley stopping gradually to each group of house (called respectively unteren , mittleren and oberen Stafel), then going down again in opposite way with the autumn.

So good number of these houses are transformed today into country cottages of holidays, it is because very new construction is strictly prohibited in the valley. Only the transformations of existing buildings are tolerated, and while following strict provisions.

A polemic of border between the communes of Tourtemagne and Oberems perduré during century until the Federal court returns regulating a judgment different on December 22nd, 2004
