Tursan

The Tursan is a soil of the department of the Landes, pertaining to the Pays of Adour landais.

Localization

Belonging to the old province of Gascogne, Tursan is located in withdrawal of the coast and the vast forest of pines. Boxed in the South-east of the department, it offers a green and undulating landscape where the Maïs pushes which will be used to fatten geese and ducks.

Tursan is bordered in North by the Petites Moors, in the West by the Chalosse, in the South by the Béarn, and in the East by the Armagnac.

Tursan presents grounds argilo-limestones on formation Tertiaire of the Eocene .

History

Tursan was a Vicomté under the Ancien Mode. The most famous Viscount was Henri IV.

Pilgrimage of Jacques Saint

Tursan is crossed by the principal way of pilgrimage which carries out until Saint Jacques de Compostèle at the beginning of the Puy-en-Velay: the Via Podiensis. Principal stages:

Thermal spa of Eugenie-the-Baths, holding its name of the empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III. The chief cook Michel Guérard has a restaurant there.
