Turned pink to rivet or Rosie the Riveter is a famous image and a popular icon of the American Culture, symbolizing the six million American women who worked in industry and who produced the weaponry lasting the Second world war, whereas the men had left to the face. The character of the poster became thereafter at the same time a feminist icon in the United States, and a symbol of the economic weight incipient from the woman.
History
At the time of the Second world war, a press campaign was launched to convince the population which the women could rivet, weld or build military buildings instead of remaining to work at it or in the usual sectors such as textile industry.The most famous poster “Was turned pink the Riveter”, in French Rosie the “Riveter”, symbol of force and femininity, so much so that one called “Rosies” those which went to work in the factories. But, if 80% of Rosies wanted to continue to exert these trades, they were encouraged, with the return of the men, to leave their place to the demobilized soldiers or were directed towards not-specialized work.
