Turn of Lombardy 2007
The 101ère edition of the race cyclist Turn of Lombardy with take place the October 20th 2007. The race took place on 242 km between Varese and Like.
The race
The Italian Damiano Cunego (Lampre) gained Saturday for the second time the Tour of Lombardy, the traditional last of the season cyclist, run over 242 kilometers, at a mean velocity of 41,156 kilometers per hour. Cunego, already victorious in 2004, preceded with the sprint its compatriot Riccardo Ricco. The duet which was detached in the last difficulty with less than 7 kilometers from the arrival, preceded few seconds an small group regulated by the Spaniard Samuel Sanchez, second the last year. The Luxembourger Frank Schleck, the favorite of the race, lost any chance by touching the wheel of another runner (Vladimir Gusev) whereas it appeared in the group of head in 10 kilometers of the arrival. In the last rise, San Fermo della Battaglia, Ricco tempted to release its compatriot in vain. They have thus to rock at the top, with 5,7 kilometers of the line, with a few seconds in advance on their prosecutors. The world champion, the Italian Paolo Bettini, victorious of the two last editions, was outdistanced as of the Ghisallo, the main difficulty of the course to about fifty kilometers of the arrival. If it then reconsidered the group of the favorites, Tuscan released taken again then on the acceleration of Frank Schleck in the Civiglio, the last but one obstacle. 26 years old, Cunego it was revealed in 2004 by gaining back-to-back the Giro, a few months before removing the Tour of Lombardy. This season, the runner of Vérone in particular gained the Tour of Trentin and GP Beghelli. It also took the fifth place of Giro.
