Turn of Italy
The Giro d' Italia ( Turn of Italy ) is a competition cyclist with stages, considered as the second in importance after the Tour de France. It was created by the Newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport the Italians Alfredo Binda, Fausto Coppi and the Belgian Eddy Merckx is the three recordmen of the test, with five victories each one.
The first Giro d' Italia took the departure the May 13rd 1909, of the rondo of Loreto with Milan. The stages were 8 for a total of 2448 kilometers.
It is one of the three large turns cyclists with the Tour de France and the Tour of Spain ( Vuelta ).

Distinctive shirts

the pink shirt ( Maglia Rosa ) is the shirt carried by the leader of general classification at the time and the end of Giro by the final winner. It is coveted the most. (Small anecdote: the shirt is pink because Gazzetta dello Sport is printed on pink paper)
- the shirt cyclamen ( Maglia ciclamino ) reward the winner of the points score. To Giro, the stages of mountain and the against-the-watch allot as many points as the stages of plain, contrary to the turn of France. It may be that the shirt cyclamen is on the shoulders of a sprinter as on those of a runner of general classification aiming at the beginning the pink shirt.
- the green shirt ( Maglia Verde) is the equivalent of the shirt with pea of the turn of France and reward the best climbing one.
- the blue shirt ( Maglia will azzurra , or blu ) is allotted to the runner at the head classification of the compound which is established by addition of general classification, by points, of the mountain and gazzetta 110 of each of the 21 stages.
- the white shirt ( Maglia bianca ), reward the best young person, as with the Tour de France.
- the pink number is carried by the runner at the head of the classification gazzetta 110, an intermediate sprint located in the course of stage to which the 5 first of each stage mark 5,4,3, 2 and one point.
