The Turn CN (in English CN Tower ) or the Turn of CN or, officially, the national Tour of Canada are a tower of 553,33 meters located in the center of Toronto, with the Canada, which became the emblem of this city. The tower is sometimes called the Tour of the National Canadian because the railway company of the Canadian National (CN) was the owner of the tower. The tourists can reach only middle height at a platform comprising several levels between 342 m and 351 m of altitude: a turning restaurant (which achieves a full rotation in 72 minutes), a platform of observation, as well as a transparent floor.

It was built in 1976 by the Canadian National (CN) which wished to show the force of Canadian industry by building the most building of the world. Originally envisaged like an antenna for the radio and television, it is today one of principal tourist attractions of Toronto. In 1995, the Real estate company of Canada bought the tower. This Société of the Crown since re-elected it national Tour of Canada , a name less current than turn CN.

The Sky Pod (a small platform which is well above the principal stage of observation) is located at 447 m, and is the most observation post open to the public in the world. To reach the Sky Pod is done by paying a supplement.

According to the Guinness book of the records, the Tour CN was “  the highest self-supporting structure of the monde  ”. September 13rd, 2007, the Burj Dubai exceeds the Tower CN, which makes him lose its title of higher self-supporting structure of the world.

The Tour CN belongs to the Seven wonders of the modern world, according to. It also belongs to the Fédération of large the round the world tours. It is the central theme of the novel Ainsi speaks the Tower CN about the poet and French-speaking novelist Toronto-native Hédi Bouraoui.

Thus in prospect, if the Twin towers of Petronas in Kuala Lampur, and, more recently, the Tour Taipei 101 of Taipei are the most buildings of the world, the tower CN of Toronto remains the 2nd higher building .

Use

The Tower CN was and continues to be employed like turn of communications for a certain number of various media, and by many companies

Environmental impact

The Tower, as the remainder of the city, was built on an important corridor of migration of birds. A problem to some extent quantified is that of the night lighting which in Toronto seems responsible for a great number of collision of these birds with glazed surfaces, built antennas or superstructures. This phenomenon, often indicated by the name of luminous Pollution has impacts which exceed by far those of the Roadkill, which is dense downtown. The program Fatal Light Awarness Program (FLAP) indeed collected nearly 3.000 corpses of birds to the feet of the turns of Toronto in one year, in particular with the feet of the Tour of CN. For this number of corpses, it would be necessary to add the many wounded birds which hid to die, or those carried by cats or rats before to have been able to be counted. By extrapolation, the program FLAP estimates from one to ten million the number of migratory birds which are killed annually by collision with buildings in Toronto. The fork is broad, because one is unaware of the number of birds wounded compared to that of those which are killed on the blow, and how much among them will go back from there. Other studies made in Chicago showed that the extinction of the lights of offices the night reduced the number of the collisions of 83%, and it is known that since the barrel of the headlights is lit, the birds are not attracted more nor killed per million as they it front, were attracted by the powerful revolving lamps.

The electromagnetic Pollution to which the large antennas contribute is often evoked, but without scientific consensus clearly on the importance of its impacts on the human health and the animals.
