Turn Apogee

Turn Apogee

In the Sixties, with Paris, in the 13 {{E}} district, at the time of the construction of turns in the south of the Place of Italy, one had planned to build a very high tower, which would have been called Apogée. It would have been higher than the Tour Montparnasse and its 210  m in height. The project was abandoned in 1975 following the arrival with the presidency of the Republic of Valery Giscard d'Estaing in 1974, which made cancel the permit building.

The era of the large towers in Paris will intra muros and of the construction projects of expressway was stopped clear.

A kind of mast or multicoloured bell-tower and a transparent arch having to make the connection between the part of the district built at the 19th century and the district of the towers built in years 60-70, conceived by the architect Kenzō Tange, occupy today the site planned for the Apogée tower and are used as entry at the shopping mall Italy 2.

The principal ways which are around it are the Vincent-Auriol boulevards, of the Hospital, Auguste-Blanqui and the avenues of the Goblins, Choisy and Italy.
