Turn-North is a semi-official division of the town of Tours (Indre-et-Loire), which corresponds to the part of the city located at the north of the the Loire. Although not having any legal existence, this distinction of with Turn-Center is definitely sensitive, as well architecturalement as urbanistiquement.

History

With its creation in 1789, the common of Tours included the Saint-Symphorien suburb located out of Right Bank of the the Loire, around the church of the same name and with the outlet of the old medieval bridge of the city (built at the beginning of the 11th century and replaced towards 1760 by current the Pont Wilson, more in the west).

In 1964, the town of Tours annexed the common Saint-Symphorien and of Holy-Radegonde-in-Touraine, which formed with what became meanwhile the district Paul-Bert the sector called today “Turn-North”.

Administration

Turn-north is structured in two cantons: Turn-North-West and Turn-North-Is, for a population of 35.908 inhabitants (1999).
