Turlupinade
A turlupinade was a coarse joke played by the three actors Turlupin, Large-Guillaume and Gaultier-Garguille.
Turlupin, Large-Guillaume and Gauthier-Garguille were three merry companions who played together before belonging to the troop of the Hôtel of Burgundy, and whom they continued to represent between them when they had been incorporated in this one. Léris reports that their incorporation took place when Gauthier-Garguille, Large-Guillaume and Turlupin, boy-bakers from the St. Lawrence suburb in Paris, without study, but with spirit they were friendly, and being put at the head to make the comedy, they composed of the parts or the comic fragments which were named since turlupinades : they took suitable clothes with the characters where they had been intended. They rented the little game of paulme, which still exists with the Saint-Jacob door: they swage a portable theater, and fabrics to be used to them as decorations. They had played for one hour up to two, especially for the schoolboys, and the play started again the evening; the price of the spectacle was of two grounds six sums of money per capita.
The actors of the Hotel of Burgundy being felt sorry for to the cardinal of Richelieu that three jugglers undertook on their rights, Its Eminence wanted to judge of this disagreement not its eyes. They were mandés with the Palais Royal, where they accepted order to play in a alcove. They were exceeded in the scene of Large-Guillaume as a woman, melting in tears to alleviate the anger of Turlupin her husband, who, the saber with the hand, at every moment threatened to cut the head without wanting to him to listen to it; one hour old scene whole, in which this woman, sometimes upright, sometimes with knees, told him thousand touching things, and tried all the means of tenderizing it. On the contrary the husband redoubled his threats. - “You are a mask, said to him it, I do not have an account to return to you, it is necessary that I kill to you. - Eh! my dear husband, began again it, I one entreat you by this soup with cabbages that I made you yesterday eat, and that you found so good. “To these words, the husband goes, and sabers it falling to him with the hands: - “Ah! the carogne, says it, it took to me by my weak, grease still solidifies me on heart” etc
This spectacle, such as one can appear it, rained with the cardinal. It made come the actors, and reproaching them that one left always sad the representation of their parts, it ordered to them to join these three comic actors.
Thereafter, one ends up giving the name of turlupinades to certain a little forced loads, with some Lazzi S of a comic bottom, to which actors more anxious delivered themselves to excite the laughter in an even coarse way to show good taste, and who pointed out the burlesque play of Turlupin and his/her companions.
