Turisas

Turisas is a group Finnish of symphonic Folk metal evoking feelings epic. It draws its name from former Finnish God of the war. It was founded in 1997 by Mathias Nygård and Jussi Wickström

The Turisas group combines the power-metal and the soft elements of black-metal with the Finnish music folk. The piece entitled Battle Metal gave birth at the end " battle-métal" used as description of folk-metal and power-metal (used mainly by Metal Hammer magazine and its readers). The Viking metal would be their style of music, as it similaritées there in their music with the groups Amon Amarth and Finntroll.

October 28th, 2005, the guitarist Georg Laakso was seriously wounded in an accident of car and, had with the extension of its wounds to the vocal cords, on July 12th, 2006, it published on the official site that it withdrew group. Néammoins, the continuous group has to work on their new album, planned for the beginning of 2007.

Mathias Nygård revealed in January 2007 in the edition of the Terrorizer magazine that the musicians of round Hannes Horma, Olli Vänskä, Janne Mäkinen and Antti Laurila full-time have summers added to the group like official members. Finally, of the two players of accordions, only Mäkinen became official member and Laurila is still musician of round for the group. No decision was made to replace Georg Laakso but Jussi Wickström recorded all the pieces of guitar on the new album following Battle Metal, entitled The Varangian Way.

February 19th, 2007, the player of keyboard Antti Ventola wrote a message on the discussion forum announcing that it left the group. What was confirmed later by the remainder of the group.
