Turballe is a common French located in the department of the Loire-Atlantique and the area Pays of the Loire.

Geography

The commune of Turballe is on the peninsula of Guérande, in the west of the salt-water marshes. It is surrounded by the communes of Guérande in the east, Piriac-sur-Mer in north and Croisic, in the south, which faces the peninsula of PEN-Bron .

A long sand beach, called the Large cliff in reference to its large dune, connects PEN-Bron to the port. The wood of PEN-Bron separates this beach from the salt-water marshes of the small Traict . At the end of PEN-Bron was founded at the end of the XIXe century a center photogravure-sailor always in activity. The seaside of the north of the commune is much rock.

The church of Trescalan , to the top of the highest hill of the commune, offers a remarkable panorama on the marshes. Moreover, of many hamlets divide the territory of the commune, such Coispéan , Méliniac , Fourbihan , Lauvergnac , Trévaly etc Some mills and manors are also to see.

History

One finds mention of Turballe for the first time in writings going up with 1452. At that time, it was not yet of a borough, but about a group of some houses at the top of the dune.

The hamlet developed within the Frairie of Trescalan which gathered part of the villages of the parish of Guérande. In 1698 a vault was set up with Trescalan . (The current church goes back to 1847).

In 1836, Turballe counted 219 inhabitants including 30 fishermen.

In 1847, the fraire of Trescalan - as that of Coispéan - became a parish with whole share. There were then already more inhabitants with Turballe than with Trescalan .

The activities of fishing not ceasing growing, Turballe was high with the row of commune the May 17th 1865. Two months later, its first mayor, Alfred Pellier, was élu.

Turballe accommodated in June 2006 the Festival Anne of Brittany.

The Anne duchess offered in 1505 three crowns: one out of gold with the parish of Guérande, one out of money with the parish of Saillé, one bronzes some (actually out of copper) with the parish of Trescalan .

Of these three crowns only that out of copper always exists. It is the property of the commune of Turballe.
