Origin of the name

The tuque term “ ” comes us in fact from the Périgord, where, at the time of the colonization of Canada, it was still used to indicate a Sommet , a Colline or a Promontoire . At the time of colonization, old French evolved/moved in Canadian dialect with absorption of words of various origins (including the Basque, the Catalan, the Wallon, the Flemish , various Amerindian languages and of course, English, to quote only the principal ones).

In inhabitant of Quebec, the tuque is the wool hat with a pompom used in winter. The term is used for a very long time. By extension, the pompom of tuque is the top of the head.

At the time where the Trappers and delicatessens of News-France furrowed the zone, they travelled by the water ways. On the River Saint-Maurice (from 1,5 to 2 km broad by places), the reference mark more recognized for Tuque was a rather peeled mountain of aspect, having at its top some fir trees. Its tuque aspect of (the bonnet), and surely also the influence of the term périgourdin (the top) immediately influenced the runners of wood in order to name it as being the principal reference mark of the corner, being visible since several kilometers downstream and upstream. Tuque had been born, at least traditionally if not officially. The explorer François Verreault thus describes it in 1823-24:

a bearing named Ushabatshuan (the too strong current to jump it). The travellers name it Tuque, because of a high mountain, whose peak resembles tuque. This bearing is of one mile, with strong coasts to be gone up.

Sociology of the marriage

The city of Tuque would be the city in the world where there is the rate more raised relations out-marriage, that is to say approximately 43% of the relations man-women.
