The Tupungatito is a active Volcan located in the Andes cordillera, with the fontière between the Argentine (province of Mendoza, department of Tunuyán) and the Chile (Metropolitan region of Santiago).

It is located at more or less eight kilometers in the south-west of the Tupungato now extinct.

Volcanic activity

The volcano includes/understands 12 craters Holocène. in the last two centuries, it manfesté eruptions of the explosive type, frequent, but rather soft. Among the last:
  • from March in October 1959 (Index of volcanic explosiveness or IEV 2)

  • July 1960 (IEV 2)
  • From May in August 1961 (IEV 2)
  • August-September 1964 - central crater: explosive eruption.
  • January 1980 - south-western crater - (IEV 2)
  • January 1986 - north-western crater - (IEV 1)
