Tunnel of Frejus
The Tunnel of Frejus is a road tunnel connecting the France to the Italy, bored under the point of Frejus between Modane and Bardonèche (Italy).
12.895 meters length, it was brought into service July 12th 1980 and involved the disappearance of the shuttles of transport of cars by the railway Tunnel of the Mount-Cenis. It cost at the time of its construction approximately two frank billion , that is to say approximately 700 million euros value 2005 by taking account of inflation. Pierre Dumas chaired the French company for the road tunnel of Frejus (SFTRF) of 1962 1989.
Following the accident of the Tunnel of Mont Blanc of 1999, safety was notably reinforced at the beginning of the Années 2000. However, the June 4th 2005, a fire killed two Camion Slovak neurs , involving the closing of the work for several weeks. It was reopened with circulation the August 4th 2005.
It is connected French side to the highway A43 and Italian side with the highway A32. It is in 2006 the longer fifth road Tunnel in the world.
In 2007, it is decided the realization of a eight meters gallery of broad help, parallel with the current tube. This width makes fear a future opening to the circulation of this gallery, and thus an increase in its frequentation to the detriment of the Ferroutage.
