Candidates
The candidature of the Democratic party progressist is not authorized by the Electoral code owing to the fact that its party does not have any seat with the House of Commons. The Constitutional council, being based on the provisions of the constitution and those of the Electoral code, thus declares regular and admissible the following candidatures:- Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, outgoing president and candidate of the Constitutional Democratic Assembly (RCD)
- Mohamed Bouchiha, general secretary of the Left the popular unit
- Mounir Béji, president of the Left social-liberal
- Mohammed Ali Halouani, member of the Political office of the Movement Ettajdid ( Ettajdid ) and representing alliance of the democratic Initiative (left coalition)
Electoral campaign
The cover of the Médias during the Electoral campaign is definitely disproportionate: the president Ben Ali and his party obtain a deposit rate of 77% of the time of the audio-visual mediums and 92% of the surface of the daily Written press. The subjects covered by the media (economic development, education, environment, emancipation of the woman, information technologies, etc) all are exploited to promote the candidature of Ben Ali and his political program. Within this framework, the media present an eulogistic inventory of the assessment of the outgoing president and accrediting the electoral promises for its next mandate
