Tulip of Guillestre

The Tulip of Guillestre or Tulipe with flattened marks ( Tulipa platystigma , Jordan, 1855) is a Hardy perennial Bulbe uses of Liliaceae and Tulipa, and it belongs to the 14 species of Tulipe S wild of France. It is an endemic of the High-Durance and quasi-extinct species . It owes its name at the town of Guillestre in the Hautes-Alpes.

Description

The Tulip of Guillestre is rather atypical with its dress pink-lilac and its blue heart.

History

She was discovered for the first time in 1855 by the biologist Alexis Jordan, but was soon forgotten and regarded as extinct, and was known only by people of the country but which did not appreciate its right value. The tulip of Guillestre was redécouverte only in 1991 by a priest of Risoul, André Foy.

Protection

Currently there remains only one about fifty specimens gathered in only one station. The tulip of Guillestre is registered with the National Red book of France.
