Tui

The company TUI AG ( International Touristik Union ), whose head office is with Hanover, is a German company mainly present in the tourist sector . It belongs to the index DAX of the Bourse of Frankfurt.

In the beginning, TUI AG was a metallurgical industry group which was called Preussag. But, in the middle of the Years 1990, the firm decided to be reinvented as a group of tourism. With this intention, the industrial activities of the company were liquidated to be able to buy travel agencies as it was the case in 2002 with the repurchase of the French group Nouvelles Borders.

Today, TUI is the greatest group of tourism in the world and is present in all Europe. It has travel agencies, receptive agencies, hotels, airline companies, cruising ships and tour operators. Moreover, it is an important maritime company of Porte-conteneurs (4th world rank).

  • 12 hotel groups in 28 countries including/understanding 285 hotels and more 163.000 beds

History

  • 1968 TUI (International Touristik Union) was born from the association of following SME Touropa, Scharnow-Reisen, Hummel Reise und Dr. Tigges

  • 1970 international airtours and TransEuropa integrate into TUI; Creation of the Clubs Robinson (with the Steigenberger group)
  • starting from 1972 participation in various hotel chains ( and Al Iberotel 1972 , RIU 1977 , Grecotels 1981 )
  • 1990 the name of the principal tour operator becomes " TUI Schöne Ferien"
  • 1995 Creation of TUI Nederland and TUI Austria
  • 1996 Creation of Swiss TUI
  • 1998 Absorption by the group Preussag/Hapag-Lloyd and incorporation under the name Hapag Touristik Union (HTU)
  • 2000 HTU re-elects TUI Group
  • 2001 TUI Group purely becomes a subsidiary company with 100% of Preussag AG
  • 2002 Name change of Preussag AG in TUI AG
  • starting from 2002 reorganization of a mixed company towards a company of the tourist sector and logistic
  • 2004 the bank WestLB sells its shares (31,4%) of group TUI. New shareholders will be Spanish investors (Family Riu, Grupo de Empresas Matutes, Caja de Ahorros del Mediterraneo).
  • 2005 TUI sells its company of railway logistics VTG AG with the European Compagnie of Coaches.
  • 2005 the logistic activities are gathered under the name Hapag-Lloyd and concentrate on the maritime sector of container ships. With the takeover of Canadian CP Ships, it occupies from now on the 4th world rank.
  • 2006 TUI AG sells its mark for business trips TQ3 with Dutch BCD Holdings N.V
